What is the Isubyo Retreat?

The Isubyo Retreat is an 8-day immersive experience in Rwanda designed for those making their first trip to the Motherland. It blends relaxation, adventure, and cultural exploration in one of Africa’s most beautiful and vibrant countries. Whether you're looking to unwind, explore, or nourish your mind, body, and soul, the Isubyo Retreat offers a perfect opportunity to do so.

Who is the retreat for?

This all-inclusive retreat is ideal for entrepreneurs, creatives, and anyone who wants to explore Rwanda, the heart of Africa, for the first time. It’s perfect for those seeking a rejuvenating experience, cultural enrichment, and an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals in a serene and inspiring environment.

The retreat is intimate, with a maximum of 10 attendees to ensure a personalized and enriching experience.

When is the retreat taking place?

A 'Prelude' Isubyo Retreat will take place from February 16th to 24th, 2025, with the Official Retreat taking place May 12th to May 19th. The main base will be Eagle View Lodge in Rebero, Kigali, with additional stays and activities at UMVA Muhazi, Akagera National Park, and of course, City of Kigali.

What does “Isubyo” mean?

"Isubyo" (pronounced e-sue-bjo) is a Kinyarwanda word that symbolizes the beauty found in life’s imperfections, much like the unique patterns in wood grain. It represents moments of bliss that emerge from these imperfections, which is the essence of this retreat. For 8 days, you will experience a journey that feels perfect in its beautifully imperfect way.

How do I secure my spot for the retreat?

To secure your spot, you need to make a deposit of $500. You can do this by visiting our booking page or contacting us directly.

What is included in the cost of the retreat?

The Introductory cost of the retreat is $3975 and covers all accommodations, meals, activities, tours, and local transportation during the retreat. Guests are only responsible for booking their flights to and from Kigali, Rwanda. A $500 deposit is required to secure your spot, with the full balance due closer to the retreat date.

Our Offical Retreat in May will be $4975, so we encourage you to attend the 'Prelude' Retreat.

What is the cancellation policy?

Full Refund: If you cancel within 90 days before the retreat start date, you'll receive a full refund minus the $500 deposit.

Cancellations made less than 60 days before the retreat start date are non-refundable. This is because we make non-refundable deposits for accommodations, activities, and other arrangements well in advance. If you find yourself unable to attend, we recommend finding someone to take your spot to avoid losing your investment.

Force Majeure: In the event of extraordinary circumstances (e.g., natural disasters, pandemics) that force the retreat to be canceled, refunds or credits for future retreats may be offered depending on our retreat organizing partner's refund policies.

Where will I be staying during the retreat?

Attendees will stay at Eagle View Lodge for 6 nights and UMVA Muhazi Lodge for 1 night. Both locations offer tasteful done architectural vibes and comfortable accommodations.

Are meals included?

Yes, ALL meals are included during our outings. You'll also enjoy a community-style multi-course dinner at UMVA Muhazi Lodge.

Do you cater to dietary restrictions?

Yes, we accommodate various dietary restrictions and preferences. Please inform us of any specific dietary needs when booking activities and Itinerary.

What activities are included in the retreat?

At this All-Inclusive 8-day Retreat, indulge in healthy meals at Eagle View Lodge and rejuvenate with yoga and meditation sessions. Savor Rwandan cuisine on a food walking tour in Nyamirambo, and explore Kigali’s vibrant art scene with visits to top galleries and key landmarks. Relax with optional massages, enjoy nature at UMVA Muhazi with bird watching and kayaking, savor a farm-to-table dinner, and more. Experience a thrilling safari in Akagera National Park, and capture the moment with a professional makeup and photoshoot session.

Will there be free time to explore on my own?

Yes, the itinerary includes a free day to explore Kigali at your leisure or simply relax at the lodge. This allows you to tailor the experience to your personal interests and needs.

What should I bring with me?

We recommend packing comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor activities, a swimsuit, casual outfits for tours, and a camera or smartphone for capturing memories. It does get cool in the evenings in February, so bring a sweater or cover-up.

Don’t forget to bring any personal items like sunscreen, insect repellent, and your favorite skincare products.

How do I get to the retreat?

You need to book your flight to Kigali International Airport. Upon arrival, our team will take care of everything else for the duration of the retreat.

Do I need a visa to travel to Rwanda?

Yes, and you can get a tourist visa upon arrival right at the airport.

Is travel insurance required?

While not required, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance for your trip to cover any unforeseen circumstances.

What health precautions should I take?

It is advisable to consult with your healthcare provider regarding vaccinations and health precautions before traveling to Rwanda. We recommend vaccines for typhoid and repellent for mosquitoes. Rest assured, Malaria, isn't really a thing in Rwanda, due to its very clean surrounding.

Will the Isubyo Retreat be held again?

Yes! Each Isubyo Retreat will take place in a different part of Rwanda, with a new focus or theme, providing a fresh and unique experience every time. This gives guests the opportunity to return for another adventure with new discoveries.

Is Rwanda safe for travelers?

Rwanda is known for being one of the safest countries in Africa for travelers.
