Sinking my teeth into the Rwf 8000 burger promotion, I recently relished a dining experience at Y & T Bar & Restaurant, now sizzling at its fresh location in Kimihurura, right across from Sole Luna. The new joint grills up an eclectic, bohemian vibe with some of the most mouthwatering views in the city.
Ambiance and Decor: Y & T’s atmosphere layers up like a well-built burger—multiple indoor and outdoor spaces stack a mix of stylish, relaxed toppings that make every bite of your time there deliciously charming. The juicy views bring it all together, making this location prime real estate for a casual bite or a laid-back evening with friends.
Cocktails and Beverages: The drink menu is as creative as a burger with all the fixings, loaded with intriguingly named cocktails that tease your taste buds. But, when it came to explaining those names, the waitstaff dropped the ball, serving up snickers instead of answers. My mocktail? A 22-minute wait—definitely not fast food—and my companion’s African Spiced tea lagged behind by another 8 minutes.
Food Quality: With the burger promo in full swing, my companion and I ordered up the special. The patties were seasoned well, albeit slightly salty. Both patties were more slider than burger. The veggie burger had a tendency to crumble under pressure. The bun-to-burger ratio was way off, with the bun overshadowing the star. However, the pili pili sauce was a standout, adding a spicy kick. The fries were standard fare—nothing to write about.
Service: The service? Slower than watching cheese melt on a grill. It took a whopping 48 minutes for our burgers to finally hit the table. While I appreciate that good things come to those who wait, this was excessive, especially for a dish that’s clearly the special of the day.
Overall Experience: Even with a few missteps, my time at Y & T was still a savory experience. The ambiance is the secret sauce that keeps things interesting. With some tweaks to service speed, portion sizes, burger structure, and a little more attention to the washrooms, Y & T could easily become a top bun contender for burger lovers in Kigali. I hope they’ll take these notes and flip them into improvements, making the dining experience as satisfying as the setting.
I’ll will return someday to see how they beef things up.
